James' Story
Here we share the story of James, a Toronto resident who has been living with a life-limiting illness. As his condition progressed, it became harder for him to stay connected to the world outside his apartment, and he was not comfortable with the idea of moving into a residential hospice. Simple tasks like making a meal became more difficult, and the feeling of loneliness crept in. Then, our volunteer, Mary was matched to James, and she started visiting him.
Mary brought more than just a helping hand—she brought companionship. Together, they shared stories, looked through old photographs, and spent afternoons enjoying the little things that still mattered to James. Mary provided the attentive care that eased his discomfort and the human connection that gave him something to look forward to with each home visit. James said it was Mary’s visits that made him feel truly valued and cared for.
This type of caring connection happens for hundreds of Hospice Toronto clients across the city every year and all are made possible thanks to generous donors like you. Please renew your support of Hospice Toronto with an online gift today. Thank you.
